Inclusive Post-Secondary Education

Lakeland College and Inclusion Lloydminster, in partnership, offer opportunities through the Inclusive Post-Secondary Education Initiative on the Vermilion and Lloydminster campuses.

 

Students with intellectual disabilities choose post-secondary education for the same reasons as other students: to further their education, meet new people and build friendships, explore career opportunities, and take part in campus life. Although students do not earn academic credits or credentials (such as degrees or diplomas), they receive a certificate of recognition at the end of their program to acknowledge their hard work commitment.  They also participate in convocation and are formally recognized by the post-secondary.

 

Through this Alberta initiative, students enhance audit courses in a program of study that matches their interests and goals. They follow the same curriculum as their classmates but complete modified assignments and write modified exams to demonstrate what they have learned.

 

Most importantly, students gain new skills, knowledge, and meaningful learning experiences that support their career goals. On average, 70–80% of students who complete inclusive post-secondary find employment in their field of interest.
